Position Title: Senior Training Manager, Learning Community and Equity Zone Training Reports to : Deputy Director of Operations, PIH-US Illinois Location: Chicago, Illinois Position Type: Full Time , Temporary for 12 months
Position Overview: The Senior Training Manager will develop and deliver curriculum for a diverse group of public health outreach workers and other training priorities as defined by HCEZ partners. The Senior Training Manager will also support the broader Learning Community (LC), directly supervise one Project Manager, and maintain multiple partnerships with local organizations to assist in training / learning support.

The HCEZ program was established in 2021 t o directly address health disparity in Chicago through (1) funded regional leadership in six “equity zones” which cover the entire city, (2) funded community lead organizations for 50 neighborhoods at most risk for ongoing health disparity, and (3) the intention to distribute / share public health leadership between CDPH and the six HCEZ regions. The HCEZ aims to promote local engagement, regional public health priority setting, and improved coordination between CDPH and Chicago communities. Each regional lead and most HCEZ neighborhood organizations deploy community workers. PIH-US will support training for this diverse group of outreach workers with the goal of better coordination, creating a shared public health and organizing knowledge base, and improving outreach performance. Training will be based in the “popular education” model advanced by Paulo Freire on a weekly basis, adapting and building curriculum based on the goals and questions from of the group. In addition, this role will lead trainings for specific organizations or sub-sets of outreach workers to learn about specific and high priority health / public health topics. Trainings will be responsive to the needs of community audiences and will include a diversity of public health priorities.
Finally, the Senior Training Manager will assist with the ongoing work of the Chicagoland Learning Community – a free, open convening and learning platform designed to increase engagement in community health, build skills and knowledge among community members, and organize to advance public health. The S enio r Training Manager will supervise one Learning Community project manager and maintain external partnerships (and the necessary contracts) to assist both HCEZ and general LC audiences.

- Develop content for and lead weekly HCEZ outreach team trainings , including delivering material and facilitating dialogue.
- Lead and facilitate weekly “drop in” space s for public health outreach workers to engage in open dialogue, ask and answer questions, develop subjects and priorities for future trainings , and support cross regional HCEZ coordination.
- Develop content for and deliver 1-2 weekly trainings on specific public health topics. These trainings may be delivered to Healthy Equity Zone regional leads, community-based organization representatives, community health organizer(s) and/or other audiences
- Supervise one Project Manager and supervise all Learning Community (LC) e vents and LC fellowship activities.
- Represent PIH-US at relevant external meetings and activities.
- Develop partnerships for training support for the LC and support contract development / implementation to support training partners.
- Bachelor’s Degree or 5 + yea rs of professional experience in community health work, public health , or a clinical field.
- 4+ years of training experience – preferably in a community setting. Experience teaching anti-racist approaches, health equity, and around social / structural determinants of health strongly preferred.
- English language proficiency required; Spanish language proficiency very strongly preferred.
- Previous Chicago or regional experience with community organizing, non-profit initiatives, and community health or social services preferred.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities appropriately.
- Exceptional diplomatic and interpersonal skills and ability to build strong professional relationships with a range of stakeholders in a challenging environment.
- Strategically minded, able to think creatively around program objectives and the detailed steps necessary to achieve these goals.
- Prior project management experience in complex, fast-paced environment .
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills , facility with qualitative and quantitative analytical capabilities.
- Ability to exhibit a professional, positive attitude, empathy, and strong work ethic.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and flexibility in the face of rapidly evolving scope of work and new challenges.
- Sound judgment and ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and health equity .
- Strong communication skills, including delivery of compelling presentations and documents in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
