The ‘Waves’ filter has been trending on Instagram. While there are several copycat filters available, here’s how to get the original one on TikTok.
The new ‘wavy’ or ‘wave’ filter has been trending on Instagram, and there is a way to get it on TikTok with a simple workaround. Every few weeks, it seems like a new filter goes viral. While the credit for the most innovative filters usually goes to Snapchat, this time it’s Instagram’s turn. The filter in question isn’t an official one created by Instagram, but a user-generated effect that has gained popularity in the last few weeks.
Among the currently trending filters, Snapchat’s Crying face filter is still doing the rounds. The filter applies a very real sad/crying expression that adds a hilarious twist to the most normal of conversations. Another popular filter, also courtesy of Snapchat, is the Shook filter. The exaggerated shocked expression creates a Chucky-like effect that’s both funny and scary at the same time.
The new wavy filter that’s gone viral on Instagram is just one of many that deliver a similar effect. It’s called ‘Waves’, and when used to record someone walking or even standing still, creates a wavy effect that makes it look like they’re dancing. To use the Waves filter on Instagram, swipe to the right in the Instagram app to open the camera view. Swipe on the available filters until the very end to get to the Browse Effects button. In the search bar at the top, type ‘Waves‘ and look for the one by the user ‘kar.ina_’. Alternatively, click on this link to open the effect in the Instagram app. Users can now create Stories or Reels using the filter.
How To Use The Waves Filter On Instagram & TikTok
Some Instagram users have also recorded reels of people dancing and used the filter over it to create an even funnier effect. What’s unique about this particular trend is that everyone seems to be using the same music for their Stories and Reels. In this case, it’s the song ‘Cumba Buena‘ by Grupo La Cumbia. To add the track, tap on the sticker icon after recording a video with the Waves filter, and tap on Music. Search for the song using the search button, and select it from the list. Use the slider to adjust the part of the track that needs to be used in the video, and tap Done. The video can now be shared in an Instagram Story or sent to friends in DMs.
To use the same Waves filter and accompanying music on TikTok, users will first need to record the video as an Instagram Story. Now tap on the three-dot icon at the top-right corner, and tap on Save. The video will now be saved to the phone’s gallery. Users can now open the TikTok app on their phone and upload the video by tapping on the ‘+’ button and adding any additional effects, if required
